Windows on the World

Produced in 1980 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, this print advertisement and brochure promoted the World Trade Center's "Windows on the World" restaurant and upper-deck observation area. Featuring an aerial view of the Twin Towers alongside the headline "The closest some of us will ever get to heaven," the tagline was originally intended as a lighthearted reference to the immense height of the skyscrapers. Following the September 11 terrorist attacks, the vintage promotional material gained widespread viral attention online due to the tragic, unintended irony of its message.
